We are huge DIY lovers, but we feel that we look best when we can make our own clothes. Even if we only made some minor adjustments to the original outfit, it is still a great way to show off our DIY skills. We’re always on the lookout for patterns and tutorials that will make us feel amazing.
1. Make your own one-shoulder cocktail gown
Do you have a body that is so well-shaped and proportioned that one-shoulder dresses look great on you? They are a great choice, but they can be hard to find good ones without high prices. We were thrilled to find this DamaV425 tutorial that shows us how we can make one-shoulder cocktail dresses.
2. Full DIY tulle skirt
Although we don’t know why, and may never be able to pinpoint it, something about flouncy and playful tulle always seems celebratory to us. We were eager to learn how you can make dresses and skirts with it. This tutorial is amazing for creating full tulle skirts using Red Ink pen. We love it so much that we have used it multiple times to create outfits that make us feel great.
3. DIY rhinestoned pumps
You can alter skirts and dresses to make your NYE outfit unique. We have rhinestonated our shoes almost every year for the last five years. There are many ways to do it, but this year we love these cute heels by Making it With Danielle.
4. Leopard pencil skirt
Do you want something bolder and more daring than the traditional “New Year’s Eve” style? This year, you might want to skip the glitters and the gold and silver color schemes and instead look at this tutorial for a pencil skirt from Pink. Although technically you can make this skirt in any design, color or pattern you like, we love the original leopard print look.
5. From a strapless, sequined jumpsuit to a gown
You may have an old prom dress or dress that you adore but aren’t interested in anymore. Instead of throwing it out and buying a new outfit, or letting it sit there indefinitely, take a look at how Daniela Tabors transformed their gown into a stunning, sequined jumpsuit, perfect for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
6. Ribbon and rhinestone heels
You were intrigued by the idea that you could make your own rhinestone shoes but would prefer a more feminine design than the glitzy, glam look you saw earlier in our list. We recommend this Fun 365 shoe tutorial! The instructions suggest adding a silk ribbon to the top of your heel, and spreading out the stones so that they look more like delicate sprays.
7. A sweater too big for a dress with a cinched neck
Do you want a warmer style because it’s cold? Or maybe you don’t have the right sweater dress to make it stand out enough. You might find it easier to just search for a sweater that you like and transform it into a beautiful belted and fitted gown, like The Slapdash Seediest did here.
8. Block dress in Feather
Are you a fan of a cute, delicate cocktail dress? Do you want to wear it but it needs a little more to make it look great for parties? We think you’re going to fall in love with this amazing feather blocking technique from A Wonderful Mess. These videos will show you how to make your dress look glamorous and elegant by trimming the bottom with maribou feathers.
9. Pin-up sewing pattern for a simple, adjustable dress
Do you consider yourself a skilled sewer and are you ready to take on a challenge? You’re attending a vintage-inspired party and want to look your best .
