A black-tie event usually requires that guests wear a tuxedo or an evening gown. Mayer says that the lines between black tie and fancy have blurred. You can’t overdress (short wearing a floor-length white dress) if you don’t want to. If you prefer to wear a suit, then a plain black bow tie or necktie is the best choice. Dresses should be full-length evening gowns. Guests are expected to stick to darker colors like navy, gray and jewel tones like emerald sapphire or burgundy.

You can be sure that the tuxedo will look great, regardless of whether your dress code says “black tie optional“, “black tie preferred”, “black ties invited” or “black ties”. It’s polite for guests to wear the same level of formality as the couple and wedding party. suits are not completely out of the picture. Mayer says that men can wear a suit in black, gray, or navy. You should keep your suit minimal. Choose a dark colour and wear a tie.

Yes, the short answer is “yes”! In the past few years, jumpsuits have evolved a lot. According to Mayer there are many options that can be worn for a black-tie formal wedding. She says that not all women wear dresses. As with cocktail dresses, choose a style that feels appropriate for an event of a higher class. Avoid styles with bright colors or patterns.
