You don’t have to be a man just because you are a man. You shouldn’t dress like a man according to stereotypical stereotypes, such as John Wayne wearing a Western or army fatigues. Manliness does not mean looking tough. It’s about being confident, elegant, and strong. You don’t want to look like a man if you are still in college. You want to look like the man in the world.
Modern Man’s Dilemma
Ironically, men are not taught how to dress up by the fathers. Men are taught to dress up in a suit and tie. This may be fine if your president is wearing a suit and tie, but it’s a bit ridiculous for someone who dresses up for casual events. Modern men may find themselves in a dilemma when it comes to building their wardrobe. However, they are often clueless about where to begin. This dilemma is not uncommon. It is easy to see that many men have difficulty dressing for casual occasions. Either they look like they are trying to model for a fashion magazine or they look like they bought something at the Thrift shop.
You’d be exceptional if your sense of style and aesthetics in menswear was already sharp. You shouldn’t be too harsh on yourself for not being able to understand casual elegance. You’ve likely spent most of your life learning the skills required to make a living. You didn’t plan on cultivating a fashion sense. You may now be in a new phase of your life. Maybe you have found the woman that lights up your life. Maybe you need to sharpen your networking skills in order to grow your business. Maybe you are ready for a more social lifestyle. Unfortunately, searching for information is not enough. It’s also not a good idea to go to libraries or bookstores. It is not because there is a shortage of information. It is due to an excessive amount of information. There isn’t enough redundant information to be able to extract a few core principles. Even worse, a lot of the information is contradictory.
How do you sort it all out?
Your quest to be well-dressed is similar to your pursuit of the martial arts. If you visit a dojo to speak with Sensei to discuss karate classes, he/she will likely invite you to attend a class to ensure that you are able to commit to it. You may feel overwhelmed when you see the different katas and all the variations of kicks, punches and blocks. If you sign up, your Sensei will teach you the basics. Once you are able to grasp the basics, advanced techniques will only be possible. This analogy can be used to build your wardrobe.
